DIY Beaded Headband Video
Tuesday, December 8th, 2009If you have a set or pearls or an old beaded necklace that you would like to remake, this DIY project is for you. The headband is super easy and simple to make. You will need a beaded necklace, a ribbon, fishing wire, scissors and elastic cord and some manual dexterity. I think that this is perfect as a flower girl bridal accessory. It’s very sweet and pretty!

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009How to Create a Fascinator
I have been dying to wear a fascinator all summer and I had a chance to wear one at a wedding. I wanted to buy a ready-made version but it was too pricey. Some places were selling it for $100+ and for something that I will not use more than a couple of times, it was not worth it. It is actually cheaper to buy it online, the only problem is that you won’t be able to try it on.
Ophelie Hats carries a wide range of fascinators and their line can also be found in several locations on Queen West in Toronto.

In the end I decided to make my own. It was not too difficult to make. The only tricky part was manipulating the netting. To make the fascinator I bought a velvet head band, some feathers and a net veil and sewed everything together. I bought all my supplies from a bridal craft store. Total cost=$12
Here is a DIY video of how to make a fascinator 101. I think that the mini hat looks more elegant than a headband.
The picture below was taken at a friend’s wedding. I miss my long hair (sigh).

Tie Dye DIY
Thursday, May 14th, 2009I found this video from Elle Girl that shows you how to update an item of clothing with a tie dye technique. The host and her guest work with a plain white shirt dress and apply 2 colours in tie dye fashion. It’s super easy and it looks like a lot of fun. Tie dye is not really my thing. It’s too flower child/bohemian for my taste. But I loved how they paired it in the end with a classic black blazer and a slouchy belt to give it instant chic. I might actually try it.

Tie Dye Tips
- To keep the look classy and chic, make sure that the item fits you well (if not, use a belt for a slouchy modern look)
- Pair with subdued and classic accessories. Designer duds work. Anything too loud will compete with the funky pattern of your dress.
