Does this romper not make you think about summer? This delicious drawstring romper (available in four colours) is a summer essential. Wear it over your bathing suit at the beach or during those lazy summer days.

Lounging by the pool, cat eye sunglasses strategically positioned, pout fully glossed and holding a popsicle stick while leafing through the latest glossy.  Yep, soon enough that will be me.

Budget Beauty Find: Clinique Make-Up Palette

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

I can never get sick of make-up palettes/sets. Clinique is having a great deal on their eye and make-up kit set.  I love the berry lip colours and the pastel colours for the eyes. With pastel eye shadow, less is more. A hint of pastel green, blue or pink is always pretty and very spring-like. The blue shade will look fabulous on green eyes and the green shade will bring out the blue in blue eyes. And for those people with brown eyes? All colours will look amazing! Lucky you!

Thayer’s Alcohol Free Rose Petal Witch Hazel Toner

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

I’ve been trying to add more natural and affordable products to my skin care routine. I basically don’t want to spend hours at night prepping my skin (I used to spend at least 2 hours while I watch tv,  getting my face ready for bed) so I am currently looking at a lot of 2-in-one products.

When I went to visit my aunt in San Francisco I discovered witch hazel. My aunt used it for everything. Witch hazel has anti-bacterial and anti-microbial properties that make it perfect for people who suffer from break outs. I wanted to find a witch hazel solution that was alcohol free and was not too harsh on my skin.

Lo and behold Thayer’s Alcohol-Free Rose Petal Witch Hazel. I’ve been using it for a week now and I am quite happy with the results.

thayer's alcohol free rose petal witch hazel toner

From the website:

Thayers Rose Petal Alcohol-Free Witch Hazel with Aloe Vera Formula Toner will make your skin bloom. Rose Thayer’s remarkably soothing Toner is made with rose-petal water, Vitamin E and our proprietary Witch Hazel extract.

Ingredients: Purified Water, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf (Certified Organic Filet Of Aloe Vera), Glycerin (Vegetable), Fragrance (Natural Rose) Hamamelis Virginiana (THAYERS® proprietary un-distilled Witch Hazel) Extract, Rosa Centifolia (Rose) Flower Water, Citric Acid, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Seed Extract, Tocopheryl (Vitamin E) Acetate.

I use this product to cleanse and tone my face. I prefer things to be unscented but I don’t mind the light rose smell. I like this product because it soothes and cleans my face. Most of all it does not leave my skin feeling dry. I have not tried to remove make up with it yet so I am not sure how effective it will be.

The item can be purchased online for $13.99 (free shipping in Canada) and there is also a lavender option (I am going to try this next time)

Besides keeping acne away from my face I also use the toner in place of regular deodorant. Wet a cotton ball or pad and apply directly to your underarms. So far so good!

Budget Beauty Find: Scott Barnes Chic Palette

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

I like really like this trio of blush colours by celebrity make up artist Scott Barnes (he worked with JLO when she was really big star). I am a big fan of contouring. I love how it changes, adds drama to the face along with instant modelesque cheek bones. I like to reserve heavy contouring at night because during the day it is too obvious. During the day a swipe of bronzer or blush is suffice.

To learn how to contour see the video below.

The video below shows how to contour with cream and powder blushes.  I like both methods but the powder version works better for me because my skin is a bit more on the oily side. Cream options does wonders for drier skin types.

Budget Beauty Find: Dove Beauty Bar

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

I have not used bar soap since elementary school (seriously!) because I really liked and stuck to liquid soaps and gels. I really did not like the dryness after using bar soaps. So when the fantastic people at Harbinger Ideas  offered to send me a couple of bars of Dove I jumped at the opportunity to give bar soap another chance.

dove bar canada

I saw this commercial recently and I really wanted to know if it was worth trying the bar route again.

I’ve been using Dove for about 3 weeks and I am happy with the squeaky clean results.  For me the fancy smells and shiny packagin are not really factors that I look for when shopping for soap.  I basically watch out for harsh ingredients that might irritate or dry out my skin, colour and strong fragrance. I like to keep things simple and the most important thing for me is coming out feeling really clean.

And the best thing about the Dove beauty bar? It’s super cheap ($2.69-$2.99) and even better when it’s on sale!

So stock up when you can!

Some facts about the Dove Beauty Bar:

Dove was introduced to Canada in 1964

Dove is not really classified as traditional soap (because of its ingredients it is more of a beauty bar)

You can’t see soap scum on your skin after you rinse off —- but it’s there! Soap reacts with calcium in hard water to produce soap scum.

57% of dermatologists use Dove at home

A portion of proceeds for every Dove sold goes towards the Dove Self Esteem fund

P.S. This is one of my favourite commercials!

{Special thanks to Kat for allowing me to rediscover Dove again!}

Budget Beauty Find: Discount Designer Fragrance, Skin Care and Cosmetics= StrawberryNET

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

I found a website that sells perfume, skin care and make up at discounted prices. Think Sephora but at a lower price point. StrawberryNET carries everything that department stores have. As in EVERYTHING but cheaper. They also have a loyalty program, online deals and additional discounts depending on the number of items that you want to purchase. On top of that, they offer free shipping anywhere in the world (some exclusions apply for fragrance).

There’s taxes that you have to pay at the border but when you take advantage of the discounted price (+additional online deals) and free shipping it is probably cheaper to buy it online. It’s a good idea to do a price comparison before making a purchase.

Here are some deals that I found (Prices in CAD $):

Budget Fashion: T.J. Maxx

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

T.J. Maxx is equivalent to Canada’s Winners but even better. I went to the San Carlos location in Cali and I found a lot of really nice stuff. I wanted to buy a Kate Spade bag ($125(?) from $300)  but decided against it because I will be going to the outlet in Las Vegas. I did pick up a nice pair of Italian-made sandals that I got at a bargain price of $19.99.

I also saw items by Michael Kors, Etienne Aigner, Jessica Simpson, BCBG and many more. I think that the real gems from places like this are the lesser-known labels from Italy. The items (especially bags) are made with the finest materials and are beautifully crafted and sold at such great prices.

If you love shopping for designer fashion  or if you’re going to the States in the future I highly recommend visiting T.J. Maxx or Marshalls.

(Thanks to Victoria T. from Rocket XL for giving me an excuse to shop at T.J. Maxx)

Budget Beauty: Sonia Kashuk for Target

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

I am currently in San Francisco (hence the lack of regular posts) enjoying the variety that the U.S.A has to offer when it comes to retail stores. And they have A LOT.  Shopping here is so amazing. San Francisco is a really beautiful city surrounded by lush greens and the Pacific ocean. I might create a separate entry about my trip on my other blog. I went to Target (Tar-Zhey..lol!) today to look at the Rodarte for Target collection.  They did not have a lot of stuff left in terms of selection and size. Oh well.  However I did find the Sonia Kashuk for Target collection and I LOVE IT! If you’re in the States this make up collection is something worth checking out. The line is affordable and the colours are wearable. It’s so hard to find matte eye shadows and I’ve found a few palettes from the collection that I really liked. If you are looking for good quality brushes at an affordable price this line carries good quality brushes.

I bought the Sonia Kashuk How To Look Organically Natural Palette (for all skin types) for $19.99 USD.  It comes with 4 eye shadows, 3 lip colours, blush and an eye and lip applicator along with how-to instrunctions neatly packed in a foldable palette. I really like this palette because it is very convenient. Instead of fumbling around in my make up bag for everything, I can just pull the all-in-one kit out without having to rummage.  Perfect for travelling and less clutter, plus it is made with certified organic ingredients!

LOVE THIS PRODUCT!

The palette is also available in bronze and smokey eye colour options. I wish that the case was similar to the Classic Palette in packaging. I think that I will put an elastic band around the case to “seal” it shut.

P.S. A good  Canadian alternative to the Sonia Kashuk palettes are the Quo cosmetic palettes that come out during the holiday season. It’s a bit more expensive but the quality is quite good. The best time to buy them is after the holiday season when they go on sale.
